Assembled over the past several years, this collection of work by Molly McCall is influenced by her sense of wonder, imagination, and daydreams. These cloud images reflect a pause in a wandering mind: a journey through a moment in time, a feeling, a memory. Her artwork invites us to slow down to create a reflective space and to imagine. Her images speak to us because they help us escape into a world of serenity and balance. They remind us of the grandeur and beauty of nature.
Molly’s latest works continue her exploration of the photographic medium in many directions. Indeed, as Francesco Poli explains in Wandering in the Land of Intuition: “…most [artists] admit that they are unable to rationally explain, even to themselves, what that secret something is that suddenly triggers the aesthetic success of the work.”
Revealed on close examination of her work is the mark of an artist, both photographer and painter, who continues to mine the seam of her own practice and explore her own sensibility to create what Brice Marden refers to in painting as “… poetry, mystery, that inexplicable thing....” McCall’s work offers us the opportunity to awaken what may be asleep and to discover possibilities.
